Discover this storybook cottage located on a large lot in the heart of the Contra Costa Country Club “village”

This charming home has a recently constructed detached garage and golf cart shed. This unique property has many different options to construct a new home on this site and keep the existing cottage in place as an accessory dwelling unit.

One of the remaining "Sugar Shacks". A few are still here in one form or another, though hardly recognizable from their original design. How they got here and what they became is all part of the Contra Costa Country Club's rich history.

When the C&H Sugar Refining Company was established in Crockett in 1906, more than 500 employees were quickly hired. To house these workers a village of temporary houses were constructed in Crockett. 

In the years that followed the newly hired C&H employees went on to buy homes of their own in the Crockett area and the temporary houses fell into disuse. With the strong presence of C&H employees among the Contra Costa Golf Club membership, it wasn't long before a deal was struck. C&H sold the cabins for $1 each, delivered.

They were dismantled, moved to small parcels of property on the golf course property and reconstructed. The Club sold them to members for $100 each, to be used as weekend cabins. The cabin owners referred to their location as "The Village." Other members called them the "Sugar Shacks."

Quite a few of the cabins became full-time residences. Most were located along the present #1 Fairway and the road leading to the swimming pool. Perhaps the best part of the arrival of the C&H cabins was the sense of community they brought to Contra Costa Country Club.
